Can A Jeweller Recreate A Lost Ring From A Photo Or Description?

Kerry walked into the studio distressed. A chunky, heavily textured gold ring had been on her hand for most of her life. Her father had chosen a 4.5ct green sapphire and commissioned a ring for her from a local artist. It was singular and irreplaceable. And then one day, it simply wasn't there.

We started with what she had: a blurry photograph, her memories, and her words. We sketched. We carved in wax. When the wax model was ready, Kerry came in and worked with us directly, adjusting the form until it matched what she held in her mind. That part of the process matters more than people realise. No CAD file captures grief. But hands on wax, making it right, comes close.

We sourced a 4.75ct Australian green sapphire. Slightly larger than the original. The same rich colour.

When Kerry tried the finished ring on, she cried. Not because it was identical to what she lost, because it wasn't. But because something she thought was gone had, in its own way, returned. The weight of it. The presence of it. That feeling of reaching for something and finding it there.

Losing a piece of jewellery you've worn for years is its own kind of grief. If you'd like to explore recreating something you've lost, we'd be glad to hear from you.
