A: To estimate the additional costs, you can visit the New Zealand Customs Service website. They provide tools and information to help you calculate potential GST and duty charges for imported goods.

Q: Please explain the difference between 9K and 18K yellow gold
A: We work in both 9K and 18K gold, and each has its own character.
18K gold is richer—both in colour and in value. It’s made of 75% pure gold, giving it a deep, warm tone and a satisfying weight. It’s more ductile than 9K, which means it will stretch before it breaks making it stronger. Jewellers prefer to work with this gold as its easier to repair and more durable.
It has a dense premium feel.
9K gold is lighter and more restrained. With 37.5% pure gold, it has a cooler tone and is less likely to scratch. It’s a practical, durable choice for everyday wear, especially if you’re someone who’s tough on jewellery. It feels lighter as it has less gold and more silver.
Q: How long does custom work take?
A: 5 to 6 weeks for a new job. It might take longer if we have to source gems. We are a tiny studio work might be done faster it is dependent on our work schedule so if there is a timeline you are trying to meet reach out to our studio manager to see if we can accommodate your dates.
Q: Do you work with heritage materials?
We occasionally work with heirloom pieces—especially if there’s strong sentimental value—but only if the materials are suitable and the timing works. Reusing old gold can be tricky (it often needs refining), and not all stones are safe to reset.
If you’re hoping to remake a piece using your grandmother’s ring, we’re happy to take a look and let you know what’s possible. It’s something we do on a case-by-case basis, time permitting.
Please bear in mind we don't recycle jewellery with lots of soldering as the solder makes it difficult and expensive to refine (this includes intricate rings and gold chains). The best jewellery to recycle are big wedding bands with minimal soldering.
Please email us with clear photos and a brief description—we’ll let you know if we can take it on.
