REFABRICATION

Kerry contacted us to inquire about rebuilding a treasured ring she had lost. It had been made by her father in the 1970s. A heavy, freeform piece with deep carving and a 4.5 carat green sapphire. She had worn it for most of her life.

There was no clean reference, only a blurred photo and her memory. We recreated it through sketches and then hand carving. The surface needed depth and irregularity, closer to tree bark than ornament.

The initial design was shaped it in wax and brought her in to respond, adjusting the form until it aligned with what she remembered.

We sourced a green sapphire from Central Queensland with similar depth and tone. Once cast and set, the ring held the same presence as the original.
