HAYASHI – 再結晶のエメラルドリング
We designed HAYASHI for our exhibition Islands in Bloom, part of Melbourne Design Week 2025.
The engraved band draws from the bark of the Yaeyama palm — a textured, organic pattern that recalls herringbone from a distance but softens on the hand. The name means grove (林) in Japanese.
At its centre is a 再結晶のエメラルド — a hydrothermally grown emerald created from fragments of natural Colombian emeralds. These stones are formed using unusable material: offcuts and rough that would otherwise be discarded. We sourced a small collection in Japan in early 2025, specifically for this exhibition.
Flanked by two natural Australian sapphires in shifting tones of green-blue and teal, the colour palette moves like a shaded forest — layered, cool and vibrant.
Hand-finished in 18K yellow gold.
